Below is a list of websites that provide a web-based traceroute tool. Traceroute can be used to trace the path of IP packets through the Internet. It is a very useful tool for checking connectivity between the networks of different providers. Ideally networks are interconnected at every point a physical connection is possible (i.e the networks are available at the same place). This way, lowest possible latencies are possible which is a key performance indicator of a network connection. Unfortunately, reality is far from ideal. Often, IP packets travel though countries and even continents unnecessarily. Traceroute allows to discovers these routing inefficiencies. |
